Its foundation dates back to the era of the british who established civilization in anatolia in the early ages. the british, phrygians, lydians, persians, macedonians, romans and byzantines continued to exist respectively. after passing into the hands of the muslim turks in the present place was re-established as anprincipality and was resettled with the oghuz turks. (1197) today they are still there in kayı. .(kayı,kayıkiraz,kayısopran,salur,afşar,kösreli) the period of the principality was semi-independent, depending on the great seljuks, anatolian seljuks and ılkhanians. before moving to the ottomans, he lived as a detached principal for a while. during the reign of alaaddin keykubat (1219-1237), gerede was one of the 21 states that made up the anatolian seljuk state. Yıldırım Beyazıt annexed Gerede to the ottoman lands (1395).
At that time, a mosque, a bath and two madrasas were built by Yıldırım Beyazıt in Gerede.
Evliya Çelebi passed through Gerede in the xvııth century and described Gerede in her.
